Surface Architecture + Design was conceived as a residential heavy firm, importing the founder's experience working on world class homes in the high mountains of Colorado to the Appalachian foothills. Like Chattanooga, the culture in Colorado was one of active lifestyles, conservation, and an inescapable connection to nature. The homes there reflected these concepts.
